Pathaan, a Hindi-language action thriller movie from 2023, was written and directed by Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyrewala on a screenplay by Siddharth Anand. Shah Rukh Khan plays the title character in this fourth entry in the YRF Spy Universe, which also stars Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, and Ashutosh Rana. In the movie, exiled RAW agent Pathaan teams up with ISI agent Rubina Mohsin to stop Jim, another exiled RAW agent, from attacking India with a deadly virus.

Principal filming for the movie, which is being produced by Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films, started in Mumbai in November 2020. The movie was filmed in a number of locales in India, Afghanistan, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Russia, Italy, and France. The Vishal-Shekhar pair wrote two songs, and Sanchit and Ankit Balhara created the music. The movie's production cost was reportedly 235 crore (US$29 million), with a further 15 crore (US$1.9 million) going into print and advertising.[4] Contrary to custom, there were few press appearances and no public activities throughout the pre-release period.

Plot

2019: Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which accords Jammu and Kashmir special status, is repealed by the Indian government. The news has an impact on Qadir, a cancer-stricken general in the Pakistani army. Qadir intends to seek revenge on India and contracts with Jim, the head of the private terrorist group Outfit X.

2020: Pathaan, a RAW agent, establishes a unit called "Joint Operations and Covert Research" (J.O.C.R.) with Major Nandini Grewal, his superior officer, in order to enlist former RAW agents and soldiers who were forced to retire due to prior trauma or injury but still desire to continue serving the nation. Pathaan and his group depart for Dubai with Colonel Sunil Luthra, joint secretary of RAW, in order to thwart Outfit X's alleged plans to assassinate the President of India at a scientific conference. They later come to understand that the information they were given about the impending attack on the President was only a ploy to deceive them and that their true goal was to kidnap two scientists, Dr. Farooqui and Dr. Sahani.

Pathaan tries to stop Jim from attacking the scientists' convoy while he does so. After a scuffle, Jim is able to flee with Dr. Sahani. When the agency could not locate Jim's body after Somalian terrorists killed his wife and pregnant child in 2003 because the government refused to pay the expected ransom, Luthra discloses that Jim was a former RAW agent who had been given the Vir Puraskar for his gallantry. He allegedly pretended to be dead in order to get revenge on the organization and the nation for failing to save his family.

The murdered persons in Dubai were ex-agents, and their money was transferred from the account of Rubina Mohsin (Rubai), a Pakistani doctor living in Spain. Pathaan also learns about the codename "Raktbeej" at this time. Pathaan visits Spain and is apprehended by Jim's men, during which he discovers that Rubai was formerly an ISI agent. Pathaan visits Africa in 2022 and apprehends Jim's goon Raafe. When he sees Nandini, she tells him that Jim bought two Saber missiles, and she also tells him where Rubai is in Paris. Pathaan encounters Rubai, who informs him that the Raktbeej virus is a modified form of smallpox that was created against her will by Dr. Sahani, a hostage, at Jim's behest. She also expresses regret for betraying Pathaan as she was unaware that her nation would prepare such a horrific attack. They proceed to Jim's lab in Siberia and, after much struggle, manage to collect one orb that contains the virus, while Jim flees with the second orb. To get the orb back to India so that they may create a vaccine, Luthra and Nandini travel to Jim's lab. Rubai is also detained by Luthra due to his shady allegiances.

Dr. Farooqui exposes the orb to Nandini at the Indian Institute of Contagious Diseases (IICD), but she doesn't seem to discover anything. The orb has already transmitted the infection across the institution, according to a phone call from Jim to them. To stop the infection from spreading, the afflicted scientists and Nandini shoot themselves to death within the institution. The building is subsequently demolished by a controlled explosion. Jim issues a 24-hour deadline for the removal of Indian military from Kashmir. Pathaan questions Raafe about the missile's position and discovers that it is in Afghanistan. After saving Rubai, they assault Jim's base by luring Jim's allies into a trap. Rubai kills Qadir after activating the virus-carrying rocket. Jim and Pathaan crash land into a cabin as Pathaan pursues after them on a jetpack.

Despite receiving a stabbing from Jim, Pathaan steals the detonator, renders Raktbeej inactive, and murders Jim by tossing him outside the cabin as the foundation is ready to collapse. Pathaan is then promoted to lead J.O.C.R. and restored into RAW, while Nandini receives the Vir Puraskar posthumously for her bravery.

Pathaan and Tiger are shown debating retiring and proposing new agents who can take their place in a mid-credits scene, but ultimately opt to keep battling the dangers themselves.
